Recognized Greek Schools
We would like to inform parents who are interested in Greek language education opportunities for their children in the greater Zurich area that there are only 4 recognized schools by the Greek state. These 4 schools are also officially recognized (through the Greek Embassy) by the canton of Zurich as HSK (Heimatliche Sprache und Kultur) schools, i.e. Mother Tongue and Culture schools. These 4 schools are run by experienced seconded teachers from the Greek public sector, who are responsible for their smooth operation, in accordance with the program of the Greek Ministry of Education and the framework for the operation of the HSK schools. Experienced hourly-paid teachers are also employed in these schools when the seconded teachers are not sufficient for the needs of the schools. Apart from HSK Bungertwies, the other three Greek HSK schools are Apfelbaum, Triton, and Winterthur. The secondment of teachers by the Greek Ministry of Education and the free provision of classrooms, infrastructures, and consumables by the Canton of Zurich are privileges due to their recognition by the Greek and Swiss states. As a result, these 4 schools operate at a low cost for the parents, but to a high standard.
Furthermore, the «Aristotelis» association is now inactive and has no connection with the recognized schools, as its two remaining board members have no connection with any of the 4 recognized schools and are running a new school in the Zurich/Baden area (private initiative), which is not a recognized Greek school. The information regarding the 4 recognized schools on the “Aristotelis” website are no longer valid nor do we have the means to change it. We therefore ask the parents to visit the official website of each of the 4 schools for further information.
